Motor carriage 7001
After some 62 years of faithful service, PCC 7001 waved goodbye as a regular tram in early 2023. This made it the oldest PCC still in service until recently. When this tram type came to Antwerp in 1960, it made a big splash with its stylish, futuristic design. Compared to the two-axleers that ran on the Antwerp network before it, it could accelerate enormously fast, yet gently.
The 7001 went through many transformations. From 1960 to 1983 it rode around in a cream colour, from 1983 it rode around in the red and white of the Antwerp tram company MIVA, and from 1995 in the colours of De Lijn. On the initiative of some enthusiasts, the 7001 was given a cream-coloured coat again at the end of 2006. It is also easily recognisable by the billboards for the Flemish Tram and Bus Museum.
